Are you thinking of doing a kitchen remodel in Goodyear?
As you probably know it is best to get at least 3 quotes for any project you want done on your house, but there is more to it than just price. If you do a Google search you find lots of companies that come up when you search “Kitchen Cabinets in Goodyear AZ” on your browser, but how do you tell them apart. Here are some items that I would be looking for if I was in the market for new kitchen cabinets or bathroom cabinets. This is the same for granite countertops or quartz countertops and tile work.
Location
Does this company actually have a location? Make sure the company has a location you can actually visit and see and touch the product so you can pretty much guarantee they are not going anywhere any time soon. The last thing you want to do is hire a company that takes your money and you never see them again. You also want to exam the cabinet doors and box construction to see what kind of quality they are made with.
Experience
How much experience does the estimator have? Most companies should offer a free in home estimate to come out and measure for you cabinets, countertops or flooring. Ask them lots of questions about their products to check their knowledge and ask how long they have been in the business. Watch for vague answers that try to avoid the question or for them redirecting a question back to you.
Reliable
Is this person reliable? Usually the first appointment should take place at your property and you should have a window of time for the estimator to show up. This is when the company is trying to earn your business, most likely the reliability will not get better from here. I would be worried if they are drastically late, especially if you did not receive a call to let you know. Accidents do happen, but you should be kept in the loop. Also, I would pay attention on how fast they respond to text, emails and phone calls. Like I said, this is when they want your money. How will they be when they have your money?
Schedule
How long is this going to take? Make sure before you sign anything you get a clear idea of how long it will take to get the product in and how long installation will take as well as what things you will have to handle. You do not want to be hit with all kind of additional expenses later or delays to your project.
License
Is the company licensed? Always make sure the business you are planning to use has a license from the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. This should be a deal breaker if they do not have one, because you will have now recourse if the job is not done properly. Also, make sure the person you are talking to is the person on the ROC license. Anybody can have business cards made up to say whatever they want. This comes back to the whole “Make sure they have a physical location” thing. Somebody coming to your house you found on Craigslist can say whatever they want and it is hard to verify.
Reviews
What do other people think? Finally, check online to make sure the company does not have a lot of bad reviews. Every company will have a couple bad reviews here and there because you can’t please everyone but look for a pattern of bad service. Also, when the job is done make sure you do your part to leave a review to help the next person.
Remodeling a kitchen or bathroom should be an easy process for most companies that do this every day, but unfortunately there are a lot of companies out there that hire a “Car Salesman” to sell kitchen cabinets. Do not give into the pressure and do your research, you will regret it if you don’t. Most cabinets need to be ordered in and they take from 4 to 6 weeks, this is usually for a whole kitchen or one cabinet. If a cabinet is ordered the wrong size it will delay your project for at least a month, and remember this is after your old kitchen has already been torn out. That is a lot of time of eating takeout food.
